Sustainable Agricultural Enterprises for the Gunnison Valley

By creating healthy growing and food production environments, sustainable farming and agricultural can meet the needs of the planet’s growing population without compromising future generations ability to meet their own farming and agricultural needs. MJ Picket is a young farmer from Reno, Nevada who has recently settled in the Gunnison Valley of Colorado. MJ has been working with multiple non-profits and land owners to create a comprehensive sustainable agriculture action plan for the valley. Through collaborative efforts, this group of non-profits and land-owners will utilize the plan to implement a Community Farm which will provide more local produce for disadvantaged populations. The project brings together multiple stakeholders in the valley to collaborate and create innovative and strategic partnerships in combating local food system issues within the valley. MJ is passionate about the project because it will both increase food security within the valley and hopefully serve as a model for future use by other regions to increase their own food security. Not to mention she gets to work with the beautiful land in the valley.
